// about the studio
hold: is my handmade design practice. Based in Vancouver, Canada, my work
focuses on modern crocheted and felted objects: beautiful and well-made bowls,
runners, and journal covers.
I learned crochet as a young child, from my mother (who sold her own crocheted
lace baskets in the 70s and 80s) and from watching my grandmother (from whom
I and other members of our large family have received countless crocheted
and pom-pommed slippers). My own work began many years later, sparked by a
generous gift to my son by our friend - an incredible, chunky crocheted basket.
I had no idea that crochet could look so not-doily, and my explorations began.
All of the goods are made from high quality natural yarns, including wool,
mohair and llama. Each is made with care and precision, one at a time. Wonderful
to the touch, I hope that they will give many years of enjoyment.

Cleaning:
Spot clean only using a very lightly dampened cloth.
If your bowl needs to be re-shaped:
1. Soak the bowl in lukewarm warm water for about 5 minutes, or until the
fibres are thoroughly saturated. Do not agitate or rub the bowl, as this will
cause further (perhaps undesired) felting and shrinking.
2. Very gently squeeze some of the water from the bowl. Gently blotting with
a towel works well.
3. Block the object on something round that is appropriate for your bowl.
The base of the object should match the base for your bowl, and the sides
should be straight or slightly flared out. Plastic containers are a good source
for a block.
4. Make sure that the top of the bowl is even all the way around, or you will
end up with a wobbly edge. Turn the container upside down and let dry completely.
This may take a few days. Using a fan will speed up this stage of the process.
5. Remove your re-shaped bowl from the block, and enjoy!
